Boston bred fashion stylist and the creator of The Vanity Vixxen, Breanah Marie, has been making major boss moves lately and proving to the world that she is a force to be reckoned with. She compares herself to the modern day Carrie Bradshaw, and we can totally understand why. She is very insightful, stylish, smart, relate-able, and is an example that dreams can become reality with hard work. Although Breanah is fairly new to the blogging industry, she possesses experience, skills, and the drive that will surely take her very far.
We had the honor of linking up with her via Facebook/email to get to know all about her and gain further insight of her endeavors. Check out her exclusive interview below:
Hey Breanah, where are you from?
Hey! I am from Boston, Massachusetts (Born and Raised)
Recently you were selected to help out at Boston Fashion Week. Tell us more about your role and how you landed that job.
I was part of Boston Fashion Week and OMG! What an amazing experience! So lets take it back… Last year when I was creating a name for my brand: The Vanity Vixxen, I started brainstorming ideas that would help support my vision. One of the goals I set was to volunteer at Boston Fashion Week. Fast forward to this year and I came across a post on the site for ‘Volunteer Opportunities.’ You know I was on it right?! After I sent an email and confirmed that I was interested, it finally became a reality. As a volunteer, I worked with the Creative Director of BFW (who is responsible for the flow of the shows so to speak) and helped her in every aspect from dressing models, setting up furniture to standing at the front door as a guest specialist (checking guest in, directing them to seats).
How long have you been in the styling and make-up industry?
I have been in retail for more than 5+ years as a personal shopper, stylist & image consultant. I gained most of my fashion expertise working at Lord and Taylor for 4 years and Zara most recently. My clients encouraged me to start my own Wardrobe Consulting business so that they could contact me outside of Lord and Taylor. That is how The Vanity Vixxen was born! When I started working at Lord and Taylor in 2010, I got into cosmetics. I would stop by the beauty counters on my break and build relationships with the make-up artists so that they could help me learn how to make make-up work for me. As I got more comfortable with it, I wanted to share what I learned with other people that were interested but had no clue where to start.
What inspires you to keep going?
What truly inspires me to keep going is my passion for helping boost someones confidence and helping them to create a style of their own. My 2 boys are my inspiration above all else and that motivation reminds me to keep pursuing my my dream of helping other people through my creative outlet, The Vanity Vixxen.
Could you tell us more about your life as an aspiring/new blogger, stylist, and working mom?
As a working Mom, aspiring blogger/stylist, I would consider my life very dynamic and interesting. As a mom, I’ve always wanted to stay busy even when the boys are at school so I would work. The times where I’ve been a stay at home mom, I’d still need something to do so The Vanity Vixxen was a small teeny idea that I had as I sat at my kitchen table. It really gives me the opportunity to feel like I’m always working towards my goals and dreams.
What can we expect from your new blog?
What you can expect from my lifestyle blog are all of the sweet little things that I enjoy indulging in. Style, Beauty, Life, Inspiration, Motivation, etc. Life is full of bite sized pieces of joy dipped in chocolate. So basically, I have a sweet tooth for life and I would love to share, although I’m stingy with my chocolate =)
What has been your biggest accomplishment on your journey so far?
I would definitely credit being a volunteer at Boston Fashion Week as my biggest accomplishment on my blogging journey. I connected and networked with so many talented new up and coming fashion designers that were down to earth and really helped expose me to the world of fashion I had not known about. I am so inspired by that experience and I am going to volunteer every year so that I can have that tingly feeling inside again.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been getting started. I have amazing ideas and thoughts that translate well in my journal but when I go to post on my blog, nothing comes out. I over think the process and second guess my own thoughts. I’m working on it though! I think… Nah, I am lol
What does your ideal future hold for you?
My ideal future holds amazing opportunities and experiences. I’m living while learning; I’m optimistic and creating each step as I go. I’m excited to be on this journey and proud of myself for allowing myself to experience it. Self appreciation is key when maintaining confidence.
What is the best part about doing what you do?
The best part about doing what I do is helping women feel and look more confident.
Are there any other brands, artists, businesses, stylist or bloggers that inspire you?
I’m a simple girl. I’m a bargain shopper and a frugal’nista. I love going to the thrift store and finding one of a kind pieces to add to my wardrobe. I am inspired by too many bloggers to list but I would say when I come across a blog that inspires me to write better content, think of things differently, and value other peoples perspectives + leaves me lusting for more… yeah them =)
Imagine there is someone out there reading this would want to accomplish what you have. What advice would you give them?
My advice to that person is do what you love and if you are passionate about something, use that passion as motivation. Write down your goals. Buy a cutesy journal to store random thoughts and ideas and give them a voice by whatever your choice of expression is. As a blogger, I give my thoughts and ideas a voice when I create a new blog post to share with my readers. I think of it as sprinkling confetti where needed– just in form of words lol.
